Denny answers:
Just because other people lie doesn't make lying right.
In some Bible stories, people told lies, but God never says that they did the right thing. God says we should always tell the truth, like He does. Even though the people who told lies in the Bible didn't always get in trouble, God knew the wrong things they did, just like He knows all of the wrong things we do. If you are honest, your friends and family can trust you. Most of all, telling the truth pleases God.
Bible Truth
- "Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it" (Psalm 34:13-14).
- "Do not lie to each other. You have left your old sinful life and the things you did before" (Colossians 3:9, NCV).
- "So you must stop telling lies. Tell each other the truth, because we all belong to each other in the same body" (Ephesians 4:25, NCV).
