Denny answers:
You receive the Holy Spirit when you believe in Jesus as your Savior.
This is called the “indwelling” of the Holy Spirit, because the Spirit comes to dwell, or live in, our hearts when we believe in Jesus.
Receiving the Holy Spirit means God sends His Spirit – who is also God – to live inside of you. The Holy Spirit is not in your stomach or in your brain or any place a doctor could see Him. He is in your heart, where you feel and love. If you understand that Jesus is God’s Son who died on the cross to take the punishment for your own sins, and that He rose back to life and returned to heaven, and if you put your faith and trust in Him to save you from your sins, then you will belong to Jesus forever. The sign that you belong to Jesus is that you will have His Holy Spirit inside of you forever.
