Denny answers:
God created angels as powerful spirits, but only God has complete, limitless strength.
God created angels as spirit beings, so they do not have bodies like humans that get out of breath, get sick, grow old, or die. Angels can fly speedily, as the angel Gabriel flew quickly to Daniel (Daniel 9:21). They are strong, as the angel who rolled away the giant stone from the tomb Jesus had risen from (Matthew 28:1-6).
Angels never grow tired of doing one thing—worshipping God. Angels worship God day and night (Revelation 4:6-8). They never get tired of praising God!
Even if angels do not get tired in the same way that humans get tired does not mean they are all-powerful. Only God is all-powerful. Angels have limited strength and will only confront Satan in the Lord’s name (Jude 9). Angels are wise, but they do not know everything as God knows everything (Matthew 24:36).
The Bible teaches that Jesus is far greater than the angels (Hebrews 1).
Bible Truth
- “[Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him” (Colossians 1:15-16).
- “So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs” (Hebrews 1:4).
- • “. . . that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10-11).
