Why do we fold our hands?

Mariah asks:

Do we have to fold our hands to pray?
Denny answers:

No, but folding your hands may help you focus on praying.

We don't have to fold our hands to pray. God can still hear us when we do not! But folding our hands can show respect. It also helps us concentrate on our prayers instead of playing with things. We can do whatever helps us pay attention and show respect to God. Some people like to raise their hands when they pray. Others kneel on the floor.

We can pray to God anytime and anywhere, even if our eyes are open or we are in a car. God wants our hearts to have the right attitude. He doesn't worry about how we position our hands or feet as long as our hearts are listening to Him.

Bible Truth
  • "The sacrifice God wants is a broken spirit. God, you will not reject a heart that is broken and sorry for sin" (Psalm 51:17, NCV).

  • "The LORD does not listen to the wicked, but he hears the prayers of those who do right" (Proverbs 15:29, NCV).

  • "When a believing person prays, great things happen" (James 5:16b).
