Why do people die?

Here's the answer:

People die because of the sin in the world.

When God created the first people, Adam and Eve, they weren’t supposed to get sick or die. God put them into a beautiful, perfect garden, where they would be able to enjoy a close relationship with God. They were allowed to do almost anything they wanted in the garden, except one thing: God told them not to eat the fruit from a certain tree.

Sadly, Adam and Eve chose to disobey God and they ate the fruit. That was the very first sin, and it brought sin into the world from that time on. There hasn’t been one human born since that time who didn’t have sin in their lives (except Jesus!).

God had to punish Adam and Eve for their sin. Not only were they thrown out of the garden and told that they had to work very hard for a living, but they also would now die one day. All their children (which is every person on earth) would all die one day too. Even sadder than facing death, though, was that Adam and Eve’s close relationship with God was broken. That meant that people wouldn’t just die physically, but they would also die spiritually and spend eternity in hell as punishment for their sin.

God doesn’t want us to have to die and go to hell. So He made a plan that would allow us to live forever with Him in heaven after we die on earth. God the Father sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to die for our sin. Jesus, who is God the Son, became man while at the same time still being God. And since Jesus was the only person who never sinned, He was the only one who could die in payment for sin.

But Jesus didn’t stay dead! And now, every person who believes in Him and accepts His sacrifice for sin will one day live in heaven with Him forever. Even though our bodies die, our spirits will never die. There’s no sickness or death in heaven!
