What does it mean to be part of the family of God?

Here's the answer:

Being part of the family of God means we are God’s children!

When we admit to God that we have sinned, believe in Jesus and His death and resurrection for our sin, and choose to make Jesus a part of our lives, God actually adopts us into His heavenly family (Galatians 4:5)! We become sons and daughters of God.

Don’t worry, you’re still a part of your family here on earth. But when you believe in Jesus, you get to be a part of a second, heavenly family. That means every other Christian is part of your new family too—they are like brothers and sisters.

God has promised that the people who are part of His family will have eternal life in heaven when they die. Many earthly parents leave their children money or possessions when they die, which is called an "inheritance." God won’t ever die, but people in His family will get heaven as an inheritance one day!

"How great is the love the Father has given us so freely! Now we can be called children of God. And that’s what we really are!" (1 John 3:1)

"Those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. You didn’t receive a spirit that makes you a slave to fear once again. Instead you received the Holy Spirit, who makes you God’s child. By the Spirit’s power we call God ‘Abba.’ Abba means Father" (Romans 8:14–15).
