What should my focus be on Thanksgiving?

Here's the answer:

Thanksgiving is a holiday where your focus should be on giving thanks to the Lord.

When most of us think about Thanksgiving, we think about spending time with family, eating yummy food, and being thankful. The first Thanksgiving was held by Pilgrims in Massachusetts in December 1621. The first winter of living in Massachusetts had killed 44 of the 102 people who moved there. There wasn't much food until a trading ship arrived and swapped select animal pelts for grain, which helped them survive.

The following summer would bring greater promise of food; however, at the time, they were going to have to manage. They were thankful for their new grain and Governor William Bradford declared that December 13, 1621, would be made into a holiday of feasting, prayer, and thankfulness for those who were still alive.

Not many of us know this original story, but it shows how hard it was for the Pilgrims coming to America. Despite the hardships, they were still thankful. As believers in the modern day, we can be thankful for all the Lord has blessed us with as well. In fact, throughout the Bible, we are told to praise and give thanks to the Lord (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18; Philippians 4:6).

There are many things we can be thankful for this year, but the most important is to be thankful for Jesus. It is because of Him that we live, breathe, and take part in life. He is also the reason that we will be welcomed into heaven when we die. Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, and His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23).
