Who is the prodigal son?

Here's the answer:

The parable of the prodigal son gives us a beautiful picture of God’s love.

The prodigal son comes from a story Jesus told. In the story, there are 3 main characters--two sons and their father. The older son obeys his father, while the younger son is disobedient. The younger son leaves home and wastes all of the money his father gave him (Luke 15:13).

While the younger son is away from home, he realizes that he has acted very, very badly. He had used up all of his money in wild living and he had to work as a pig feeder (Luke 15:15). He was so hungry that he wanted to eat the pig’s food! He was really hungry! The younger son thought to himself that if he returned home, perhaps his father would forgive him.

The prodigal son decides to head home and finds his father running to him with open arms (Luke 15:20). The prodigal son apologizes to his father and his father forgives him. His father tells him that he loves him and how happy he is that his son has returned! He throws a huge party for his son who has come home! Just like the prodigal son, we too all roam away from our Father, God. God wants us to come home to Him just like the prodigal son returned to his father. God always welcomes us with open arms.
