Only God the Father knows when Jesus is coming back the second time.
Some people try to figure out a date when Jesus is returning to earth. They try to guess the end of the world. But Jesus told His disciples (those He called to follow Him), “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come” (Mark 13:32-33).
After Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead, God took Him up to heaven while the disciples were watching. “They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. ‘Men of Galilee,’ they said, ‘why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven’” (Acts 1:10-11).
So even when Jesus was going to heaven, the angels promised Jesus would come back again! Those who believe Jesus should watch for His return, loving and obeying Him (2 Peter 3:11).
On a day that only God the Father knows, Jesus will return and take His followers to live with Him forever (John 14:2-3). Then He will judge the people left on earth for their sin. They will be separated forever from God in a place of eternal punishment (Matthew 24-25; 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10).
But believers will live forever with God in the new heaven and earth He creates (Revelation 21-22).
Come Lord Jesus!
Bible Truth
- “So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him” (Matthew 24:44).
- “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).
- “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good” (Titus 2:11-14).
