What do angels look like?

Justin asks:

What do angels look like?
Denny answers:

Angels are spirit beings, so they do not look like anything we know.

Angels are God’s helpers, messengers, and warriors. Usually, they do God’s work without anyone seeing or knowing. Bible stories tell about people who saw angels. Some people didn’t know they were seeing angels. This tells us that angels can change themselves to look like normal people. Other people knew they were seeing angels because they looked amazing, surrounded by light. Some of the angels we read about in the Bible have wings. Some have clothes that are pure white and shine like lightning. We can’t know for sure what angels look like until heaven. Even though they are beautiful, we should never worship angels. God created angels, and we should only worship God.

Bible Truth
  • “You’re the one, God, you alone; You made the heavens, the heavens of heavens, and all angels; The earth and everything on it, the seas and everything in them; You keep them all alive; heaven’s angels worship you!” (Nehemiah 9:6, The Message).

  • “We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment” (Colossians 1:15-17, The Message).

  • "All the angels are spirits who serve God and are sent to help those who will receive salvation" (Hebrews 1:14, NCV).
