How do you become an angel?

Mariah asks:

How do you become an angel?
Denny answers:

You cannot become an angel, even if you are very good or if you go to heaven.

When you are nice and obey the rules, your teacher or grandma might say, “You are such an angel!” Or you might have seen an artist’s picture of what he thinks heaven might look like with angels and harps. So you may think you will become an angel if you go to heaven, getting a halo and wings.

People think different things, but the Bible is the truth. The Bible does not teach that humans ever become angels. God created humans differently than angels, just as He created cats differently than fish. A fish will never become a cat, and a cat will never become a fish. A human will never become an angel.

God created humans and angels. He made both angels and humans able to think and worship God. He gave humans bodies that can touch and feel, but He made angels as spirits that can travel between heaven and earth, praising God and helping people.

The Bible does not teach that humans are angels before they are born or after they die.

After humans die, those who trust Jesus as their Savior and Lord will go to heaven. They will worship, not as angels, but they will worship Jesus with the angels (Revelation 5:11-12).

Bible Truth
  • “[Jesus] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him” (Colossians 1:15-16).

  • “who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him” (1 Peter 3:22).

  • “So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs” (Hebrews 1:4).
