Justin asks:
Why do we pray?
|
 |
Denny answers:
We pray to talk to God: praising Him, confessing sin, thanking Him, asking Him for help.
Praying is how we talk to God. God made us to know, love, and praise Him. Prayer helps us become closer to Him. Just like you talk with your friends, you should also talk to God so you can know more about Him and what He wants you to do. God speaks back to us through the Bible, His Word. In the Bible God tells us we can pray to Him. We should pray, but we should also want to pray. What a privilege to talk to the God who created the universe! He is all-powerful, so He can answer any prayer that is in His plan for us.
Bible Truth
- "Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it" (Hebrews 4:16).
- "Pray in the Spirit at all times with all kinds of prayers, asking for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready and never give up. Always pray for all God's people" (Ephesians 6:18, NCV).
- "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart'" (Jeremiah 29:11-13).
