Why does God let us get sick?

Becca asks:

Why does God let us get sick?
Denny answers:

Sickness is the result of sin.

God created the world perfect, with no sin or sadness or sickness. Ever since Adam and Eve disobeyed God, sin has hurt the world. This sin is what makes us able to get sick. Everyone gets sick, even people who love God.

God wants you to take good care of the body He has given you. Make sure you’re eating good foods, getting enough sleep, and keeping yourself clean. When you do get sick, you can pray and ask God to help you get better. It’s not fun to be sick, but being sick reminds you that the world has a sin problem. Find out the one way God made to solve the problem of sin!

Bible Truth
  • “When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick” (Matthew 14:14).

  • Jesus said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent” (Luke 5:31b, NLT).

  • In heaven, “[God] will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Revelation 21:4).
