What does the Bible say about single parents?

Here's the answer:

The Bible talks about single parents, including Hagar.

Hagar is the first single parent we see in the Bible. She was an Egyptian slave who had a baby with Abraham. She was acting as a surrogate for Abraham and Sarah because Sarah couldn’t have kids of her own. Sarah became jealous of Hagar and treated her badly. After Hagar was driven away with her son, she cried out to God for help. He answered her and sent an angel to comfort her (Genesis 16:7-13).

God promises us that He will always be with us (Psalm 23). This is true for single parents; God loves them just as He loves all people. We can love and respect single parents too.

If your mom or dad is a single parent, God wants you to respect your parents (Ephesians 6:1). Your parents love you! Be intentional about treating them with love, kindness and respect. God loves all people, including single parents.

Bible Truth

"She gave a name to the Lord who spoke to her. She called him 'You are the God who sees me.' That’s because she said, 'I have now seen the One who sees me'" (Genesis 16:13).

"Children, obey your parents as believers in the Lord. Obey them because it’s the right thing to do. Scripture says, 'Honor your father and mother.' That is the first commandment that has a promise. 'Then things will go well with you. You will live a long time on the earth'" (Ephesians 6:1-3).

"God is in his holy temple. He is a father to children whose fathers have died. He takes care of women whose husbands have died" (Psalm 68:5).
