What is mental illness?

Here's the answer:

Mental illnesses affect a person’s thinking, thought patterns, mood, and behavior.

Mental illnesses are complex issues that impair a person’s mood, thinking, and behavior. There are many different types of mental illnesses and many of them impact a person’s physical health too.

Those who struggle with mental illness often have distorted views of reality as well as harmful thoughts and behaviors. Many people find help through medicine going to therapy and counseling. Many mental illnesses are treatable and people can live a fulfilling life even when they struggle with mental health issues.

It is important to remember that mental illnesses are not because the person sinned. Many mental illnesses are caused by abnormalities in a person’s brain. God can restore and heal. He can also help people learn to cope with difficult feelings and thoughts.

God is with us always, even through mental health diagnoses or while we are helping someone else who is going through a difficult time.
