Why is it wrong to lie?

Here's the answer:

Lying is wrong because it is a sin. God wants us to be truthful.

The Bible tells us many times that lying is a sin (Colossians 3:9). Lying means you say something that is false or misleading. When you lie, you sin against God. God hates all forms of lying, even white lies. Lies are bad and can hurt others.

Jesus wants us to tell the truth. Even when it is hard, we need to tell the truth. It can be hard to tell the truth especially if the truth will get us in trouble. Rather than lying, we need to always tell the truth. Lying will only get us into trouble and cause pain.

God never lies (Numbers 23:19). As children of God, we should follow His example. The next time you are tempted to lie, ask God to help you tell the truth. If you have lied in the past, you can ask God to forgive you and He will. Learn from past mistakes and do your best to not lie. To tell the truth is always the best.
